Q&A System Back Up

Jan 14, 2017 Written by Frank Merrick.

Good news, the Q&A system is back up and running. I’m very sorry for the break in service between yesterday and today. We know this is an incredibly important time for teams to be able to get their rules questions answered, but we felt it was best for us to take this break to correct a security issue that had been identified.

I hope everyone is having a great first full weekend with FIRST STEAMWORKS! This morning I called Andy Baker (yes, the Andy Baker*) with a quick question on something. Turned out at the time I called, he was working with FIRST Robotics Competition Team 3940, CyberTooth, from Kokomo, Indiana, USA. He put me on speakerphone to say hi, and they all sounded pretty excited about the game, I’ll tell you.

I was wondering the minimal requirement of lift off the floor the lowest part of the robot has to be in order to score by touching the touch pad. The team's idea was to lift the robot a couple inches and have an extending part to touch the touchpad without having to raise the whole robot very high.

Hi Hayley!

Thanks for your question! Please create an account in the Q&A System (https://frc-qa.firstinspires.org/) and ask your question there. That is the only place where we post official answers to questions about the Game.

Enjoy your build season!

How large of an opening can you have on the front of your robot? What I mean here is we have an opening of the frame in the front to gather balls to go into a bin. From the rule book, it seems we need to have a minimum of 6 inches of frame on the side with bumper covering all of the frame. So does that mean if the front frame is 24 inches long, we can cut a 12 inch gap in the front frame and have each side, which are 6 inches long, covered by the bumpers. Just trying to make sure our design will pass inspection and we do not violate any rules. Thanks for your help.

Hi Patrick!
