FIRST Announces Qualcomm’s Return as Presenting Sponsor for 2019 FIRST Championship Events in Houston and Detroit

MANCHESTER, N.H., April 9, 2019FIRST® (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), an international not-for-profit K-12 organization founded to inspire young people’s interest and participation in science and technology, today announced that Qualcomm® Incorporated will return as Presenting Sponsor for the 2019 FIRST Championship, the world’s largest celebration of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) for students, happening in Houston (April 17-20, 2019) and Detroit (April 24-27, 2019) this spring.

A culminating celebration of the 2018-19 space exploration-themed robotics season, more than 70,000 students, coaches, and supporters from 70+ countries will participate at the 2019 FIRST Championship events in Houston and Detroit. With the support of FIRST Sponsors, it promises participating robotics teams and spectators alike an inspiring and action-packed experience that has all the heart-pounding thrills and team spirit of a professional sporting event. The international FIRST Championship is an annual event hosted by FIRST, a youth-serving nonprofit founded by inventor Dean Kamen, to showcase and celebrate mentor-guided student robotics teams from four programs: FIRST® Robotics Competition (grades 9-12); FIRST® Tech Challenge (grades 7-12); FIRST® LEGO® League (grades 4-8); and FIRST® LEGO® League Jr (grades K-4).
