Engineering is awesome. You get to work creatively and solve real-world problems that can scale to impact millions of people. In this presentation, we’ll give you an example of the impact Abbott engineers have on the day-to-day lives of people with diabetes. Through a marvel of biomedical, chemical, material, and electrical engineering, Abbott engineers created the FreeStyle Libre, a wearable sensor that continuously monitors your glucose levels, syncs to a smartphone app and liberates the user from the fingersticks and the stress that comes from traditional glucose monitoring. We’ll finish up with a discussion about careers in engineering and what it’s like working on innovative technology products like the FreeStyle Libre.
