Combining the excitement of sport with the rigors of science and technology. We call FIRST Robotics Competition the ultimate Sport for the Mind. High-school student participants call it "the hardest fun you'll ever have."

FIRST Robotics Competition Rookie Team Grants
The application for the 2018 FIRST Robotics Competition Rookie Grant is now closed.  Questions can be directed to Teams will be notified via email of their award status on November 10, 2017. Please note that completing an application does not guarantee funding and all teams should be actively fundraising and seeking additional funding opportunities
2017-2018 Society of Women Engineers (SWE) Gender Diversity Grant
The Society of Women Engineers (SWE), a FIRST® Strategic Alliance, is pleased to announce the opening of the fourth annual team Gender Diversity Grant. Generously funded through the Motorola Foundation, this grant will recognize teams in the FIRST Robotics Competition program for their focused efforts in creating equity, inclusion and diversity in their roster and recruiting efforts to include underrepresented* and underserved+ populations as described in the complete application.
 Grant Details:
  • Please note that all-girl teams are not eligible for this grant
  • All-girl teams that are working with a SWE Section and/or have a Mentor who is a SWE member (educator or professional) can apply for Program Development Grant funding at SWE Program Development Grant Information
  • Grant amount is $1,000 and is eligible for re-grant, if warranted;
  • Past Grantees are eligible to re-submit, provided they completed the requirements from the previous season; i.e., (photos, diversity training, season re-cap, etc.….)

Dates of importance:

  • Grant portals open Friday, November 3rd, 2017 at noon EST.
  • Submission deadline is 11:59PM EST on Wednesday, November 15th 2017 EST;
  • Email notification of Grantees will be by Friday, November 17th, 2017.


  1. Both rookie and veteran teams with a home base within the continental United States are eligible.
    1. International teams are not eligible.
  2. Teams may attend either a district or regional event.
  3. Teams must demonstrate focused efforts in creating equity, inclusion and diversity in their roster and recruiting efforts to include Underrepresented and Underserved youth as described in the complete application.

NASA FIRST Robotics Competition Sponsorship Grant Application for the 2018 season is now closed.
The grant application is now closed as the deadline was Saturday, September 30, 2017 at 11:59 PM PDT.  It is NASA's plan to announce selections no later than the week of November 13, 2017. Please note that date is a best estimate and may change.  Any changes to the announcement date will be posted on the RAP website.
