* Lead Mentor 1:

The Lead Mentor 1 is the primary contact who provides team information to FIRST® and undertakes key actions on behalf of the team via the Dashboard. It is recommended this role be filled by the Lead Mentor of the team. This person may choose to delegate some of the responsibilities listed below but should still be up to date with all progress and ensure completion. This position must be held by an adult team member 18 years or older.

  • Award Submissions: Assign student Awards Submitters through the Dashboard. Ensure submissions of Woodie Flowers and Chairman’s Awards. Lead Mentor 1 or Lead Mentor 2 submits the Dean’s List Award or assigns another adult team contact through their Dashboard. Find details here.
  • Calendar of Important Deadlines Dates: Monitor the FIRST website calendar.
  • Communications: Read FIRST communications, Team Blast emails, Team Updates, and the FIRST Robotics Competition Blog. Ensure the team is educated on important information. Contact FIRST Team Support with any questions.
  • Consent and Release Forms: Both Lead Mentor 1 and Lead Mentor 2 will work to ensure that all team members’ Consent and Release Forms are completed.
  • Contact Information: Keep all contact information up to date in the Dashboard. Provide his/her accurate email address, mailing address, and phone number to allow timely communication with FIRST, especially for use during vacations and team travel.
  • Event Information: Register Team for Events under the Team Events section of the Dashboard.
  • Kit and Kickoff Information: Submit your selection under the Kit and Kickoff section of the Dashboard.
  • Kit of Parts: Inventory the Kit of Parts to ensure items are not missing. Submit missing parts request by the posted deadline in the FIRST website calendar. Utilize the Virtual Kit of Parts voucher/password codes located in his/her Dashboard.
  • Robot Transportation: Ensure the team is meeting all shipping deadlines if you are shipping robot to an event.
  • Safety: Works with the team's Safety Captain to ensure Team Member safety. Review the FIRST Safety Manual.
  • Scholarship Opportunities: Encourage team members to continuously check the Scholarship page for available scholarships.
  • Team Profile: Maintain and update team profile information in the Dashboard to reflect correct team contacts, partner organization, and information such as the robot name and the team website.
  • Track Twitter feed/Facebook page: Monitor the FIRST Robotics Competition Twitter feed and Facebook page for announcements about updates, news and important information.
  • Check the Game & Resources page throughout the season for updates and resources.

* Lead Mentor 2:

The Lead Mentor 2 shares in providing and maintaining accurate information in the Dashboard, as well as providing leadership to the team. The Lead Mentor 2 should read and share in the responsibilities of the Lead Mentor 1, as outlined above. Generally, the Lead Mentor 2 assumes the Lead Mentor 1 role should the Lead Mentor 1 not be able to fulfill his/her duties. This position must be held by an adult team member 18 years or older. Key duties of the Lead Mentor 2 are outlined below:

Mentor:

A mentor is an important part of any FIRST Robotics Competition Team. There is no limit to the number of registered mentors on a team, and teams are encouraged to invite all mentors to register in the Dashboard. This ensures that the mentor will receive proper recognition for their hard work and dedication. Key duties are outlined below:

  • Award Submissions: Assist to ensure submissions of Woodie Flowers, Chairman’s, and Dean's List. Find details here.
  • Calendar of Important Deadlines Dates: Monitor the FIRST website calendar.
  • Communications: Read FIRST Communications, Team Blast emails, Team Updates, and the FIRST Robotics Competition Blog, etc. Ensure the team is educated on important information. Contact FIRST Team Support with any questions.
  • Contact Information: Keep all contact information up to date in the Dashboard. Provide his/her accurate email address, mailing address, and phone number to allow timely communication with FIRST, especially for use during vacations and team travel.
  • Kit of Parts: Assist with all Kit of Parts processes, such as checking vouchers and being aware of expirations dates.
  • Public Relations: Assist with collecting team information and how to share it publicly.
  • Robot Transportation: Be familiar with the robot transportation responsibilities in case the Lead Mentor 1 or Lead Mentor 2 needs support.
  • Safety: Works with the team's Safety Captain to ensure Team Member safety. Review the FIRST Safety Manual.
  • Support: Provide any support the Lead Mentors or team may need.
  • Track Twitter feed/Facebook page: Monitor the FIRST Robotics Competition Twitter feed and Facebook page for announcements about updates, news and important information.
  • Vacation Coverage: Assist Lead Mentor 1 with receiving communications and handling team issues during vacation periods.

Awards Submitter:

Adult and student Award Submitters are designated by the Lead Mentors and are responsible for submitting nominations for awards, as per each award’s guidelines. Please see the Awards page for more information. Key duties are outlined below:

  • Complete their registration in the Dashboard.
  • Monitor the Awards page for information about awards, including all deadlines.
  • FIRST Robotics Competition Blog: Monitor the FIRST Robotics Competition Blog for awards information.
  • Monitor the FIRST website calendar for award deadlines.
  • Upload and complete award nominations in the Dashboard before the deadline.
  • Contact Team Support for any submission questions or issues while uploading nomination via Dashboard.
  • Email Blasts: Receive, read and share email blasts with the team to monitor award deadlines and information. Email blast archive page located here.
  • Track Twitter feed/Facebook page: Monitor the FIRST Robotics Competition Twitter feed and Facebook page for announcements about updates, news and important information.

Team Administrator:

This adult representative is the purchaser for the team. A finance contact may be best qualified for this role to facilitate the team registration payment and meeting payment deadlines. A team is not required to list a team administrator, as the Lead Mentors have full administrative rights. Team Administrators cannot invite students or mentors. Key duties are outlined below:

  • Submit the team registration payment for the season via the Dashboard. Pricing and payment information can be found here.
  • Upload Sales Tax Exempt Certificate, if applicable.
  • Complete regrants and submit W-9 information. The regranting process can be found here.
  • Dashboard: Assist in maintenance and updates of Team Information.
  • Monitor the FIRST website calendar for payment deadlines.
