For several years the LSU College of Engineering has been involved with FIRST by hosting FIRST kickoffs and launch events, providing robotics mentors to FIRST teams, and enrolling numerous FIRST alumni in our degree programs… and now we are excited to strengthen our ties to FIRST students even more by launching our own FIRST Scholarship opportunity for incoming students entering in the fall 2019 term!

Graduating LSU senior in Mechanical Engineering and FIRST Alum April Gaydos has done all that and more during her time at LSU, and she credits much of her success to her experiences with FIRST:

“My decision to be a part of FIRST was the most impactful decision of my life. This program not only designed my path for my career, but it also designed a path for my life. FIRST robotics is how I obtained my full-time job offer for when I graduate, my position as Robotics Chair for the Society of Peer Mentors, and my role as FIRST Senior Mentor for Louisiana.” –April Gaydos

And finally, there are also a few other ways to get involved in robotics here at the College like joining the Bengal Reauxbotics student organization and/or entering a robot in the Bengal Bot Brawl. Is there anything more exciting than watching robots battle it out, gladiator-style?

For all of these reasons and more, FIRST students are encouraged to submit an application for the LSU College of Engineering FIRST Scholarship by the February 1, 2019 deadline. Click here to learn more about the scholarship and the application process.
