FIRST and LEGO Education Challenge Students from More Than 90 Countries to Uncover the Future During FIRST LEGO League UNEARTHED Season

MANCHESTER, N.H., August 5, 2025 – FIRST®, a global robotics community that prepares young people for the future, and LEGO® Education announced that the 2025-2026 FIRST® LEGO® League season named UNEARTHED™ will inspire students (grades K-8) to use their STEM skills and teamwork to dig deeper than ever before into discoveries about the past.

During the FIRST LEGO League UNEARTHED season, students will examine how each tool, innovation, and work of art connects us to the people and ideas that came before us. Through critical thinking and design skills, students will uncover the past to discover the future.

FIRST LEGO League UNEARTHED will encourage students to uncover their futures by digging into the past,” said Chris Moore, CEO, FIRST. “By using their creative thinking and LEGO Education technology, students in countries all over the world will discover how society and technology progress through the ages, and they will be inspired to develop new innovations that support a brighter future for all.”

Team registration for all FIRST LEGO League divisions is now open.

  • FIRST® LEGO® League Discover students (grades K-1) will explore the season theme through collaboration, building, and playful learning. They will create, test, and share their ideas and solutions, communicating what they have learned with others.
  • FIRST® LEGO® League Explore students (grades 2-4) will build and explore an archaeological dig site, tools used to uncover mysterious artifacts, and more. They will explore coding and motorizing parts of their team model to reveal artifacts in a puzzle box.
  • FIRST® LEGO® League Challenge students (grades 4-8, ages 9-16 outside of the U.S. and Canada) will unearth hidden treasures and piece together the past as they embark on this thrilling journey of discovery. Students will identify and research a problem related to the season theme and then design and create a possible solution. They will also identify a mission strategy and design, create, and code a robot to complete missions during a 2.5-minute Robot Game.

“By uncovering historic items or artifacts we learn to understand what civilizations looked like, and how they evolved. Which in turn helps us to imagine and build the future,” said Camilla Bottke, Head of Brand Partnerships at LEGO Education. “I can’t wait to see how the UNEARTHED season will spark innovation and imagination among FIRST LEGO League teams globally!”

FIRST LEGO League UNEARTHED is part of the 2025-2026 FIRST® AGETM season presented by Qualcomm Incorporated. FIRST LEGO League Global Program Sponsors are LEGO® Education and The LEGO® Foundation. The FIRST LEGO League Challenge Division Sponsor is Rockwell Automation.

FIRST LEGO League is available as an individual team or Class Pack depending on the number of students participating in the program. FIRST Class Packs can be implemented in classrooms or structured after-school programs and provide educators and communities with flexible, high-quality STEM learning experiences for students using evidence-based practices. Each team or Class Pack registration includes support guides and exclusive division sets.
