Steve Sanghi was named the President of the Microchip Technology Incorporated in August 1990, Chief Executive Officer in October 1991, and the Chairman of the Board of Directors in October 1993. In June 1995, Sanghi received an Arizona Entrepreneur of the Year award. He is co-author of the book "Driving Excellence:  How the Aggregate System Turned Microchip Technology from a Failing Company to a Market Leader (Wiley; April 2006)," along with Michael J. Jones, Microchip’s former head of human resources. Sanghi is also the author of the weekly "Ask Steve" business-advice column in the Sunday Business Section of the statewide Arizona Republic newspaper.

Before joining the Company, Sanghi was Vice President of Operations at Waferscale Integration, Inc., a semiconductor company, from 1988 to 1990. Sanghi was employed by Intel Corporation from 1978 to 1988, where he held various positions in management and engineering, the most recent serving as General Manager of Programmable Memory Operations. Today, Sanghi is a member of the Board of Directors of Xyratex Ltd., a member of the Board of Directors of FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), and a member of the Board of Trustees of Kettering University.

Sanghi and Microchip have won numerous awards and honors for business excellence throughout his tenure as President and CEO. For example, as of 2009, Microchip won the Alfred P. Sloan Award for Business Excellence in Workplace Flexibility for four straight years. The award distinguishes Microchip as one of the top practitioners of workplace flexibility in the United States.  Also as of 2009, Microchip has won Phoenix Business Journal’s "Best Places to Work in the Valley" for three consecutive years, placing among the top-30 large companies (250+ employees) to work for in Arizona because of the way it creates an engaged and supportive workforce.

In 2010, Sanghi was named EE Times’ 2010 "Executive of the Year," following Microchip’s 2009 honors for "Company of the Year." EE Times is a leading electronics-industry publication, and their Annual Creativity in Electronics (ACE) Awards is the most prestigious industry honor for business excellence. The Arizona Business Leadership (ABL) Association awarded Microchip its 2010 Arizona Business Leadership Award, and Sanghi was named to the Phoenix Business Journal’s annual list of the Most Admired CEOs.

Sanghi holds a Masters of Science degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Massachusetts and a Bachelor of Science degree in Electronics and Communication from Punjab University, India.
