Entertainment & Film

Through documentaries, feature films, streaming content, and entertainment partnerships, FIRST brings the stories of our community to global audiences far beyond the competition field. These initiatives help introduce new audiences to the power of FIRST while showcasing the creativity, resilience, and innovation that define the FIRST experience.

Disney+ Documentary "More Than Robots"

Directed by actress Gillian Jacobs in her feature directorial debut, "More Than Robots" follows four teams from Los Angeles, Mexico City, Chiba, and Japan as they prepare for the 2020 FIRST Robotics Competition season. As students push toward their season goals, the COVID-19 pandemic suddenly brings the world to a standstill — forcing them to adapt, overcome setbacks, and redefine what success looks like. The result is an intimate look at perseverance, teamwork, and the human stories behind the FIRST community.

Premiering at the South by Southwest (SXSW) Film Festival before streaming globally on Disney+, the documentary introduced millions of viewers to the FIRST experience, teaching audiences from around the world that robotics is about far more than technology. It's about creativity, determination, leadership, and the ability to keep moving forward when the path ahead changes unexpectedly.
