This page hosts content archived for the 2022 RAPID REACT playing field. Current playing field assets can be found here

This list identifies recommended materials for building a half-field of wooden, game specific components for the 2022 field. (Note: The List of Materials was updated to V1 to correct two errors: change the length of reflective material from 60 in. to 80 in. and change the quantity of 4 ft. x 8 ft. x 1/8 in. thick clear polycarbonate sheet from 1 to 2. Our apologies for any inconvenience!)

AutomationDirect's 3D Print Field

Description: AutomationDirect’s animation team converted the animation models into 3D printable models, 20:1, for you. This is the “playing field” for the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) game for 2022. These models are not intended to be accurate representations of the actual field – please do not use them for ANY game, rule or ‘build’ decisions. These models have been highly modified from the actual field drawings to make them easy to 3D print and assemble and to give the general appearance of the actual field. All parts should fit together, but that depends heavily on printer accuracy. Hopefully, they are close enough that you can file things down a little if needed.

To paraphrase from the Latin – Caveat Printor! Let the printer beware!

AutomationDirect hosts the resources to 3D print a RAPID REACT field on their site.

More Info:

Hardware Platform

  • Computer (at least to download and extract zipped files)
  • 3D Printer (developers use a low-end RepRap 3D Printer, so any printer you have should be able to print at least as well)
  • Filament (developers used PLA)

FIRST Official CAD Models

Description: 3-dimensional models of field parts and assemblies are available in a SOLIDWORKS package (updated Jan. 11, 2022, ~356 MB) and STEP package (updated Jan. 11, 2022, not all colors or appearances are reflected properly in the STEP package). Reference this SOLIDWORKS blog for additional information about SOLIDWORKS tools and FIRST Robotics Competition.

To open the 2022 SOLIDWORKS CAD model versions posted by FIRST, you must at least have SOLIDWORKS 2019. Visit the SOLIDWORKS section of the Virtual Kit of Parts webpage to get details.

Team Element Assemblies

Complex versions are close approximations of the official field assemblies and contain most of the important features of the official field at full scale.
Simple versions are designed to reduce assembly time and cost. Simple versions typically focus on one or two important features of each field assembly or are scaled down in size to reduce material usage (these designs accommodate robots that focus on doing a specific task rather than all tasks).
Each download is a zip file including drawings, CAD, STEP, pdf, and a Read Me (for discrete Team Element drawings only, see above).

  • Hub (aka Major Field Assembly 1): Complex (updated Jan. 11, 2022, ~213 MB) & Simple (~157 MB)
  • Terminal (aka Major Field Assembly 2): Complex & Simple
  • Hangar (aka Major Field Assembly 3): Complex (updated Jan. 11, 2022) & Simple
  • Cable Protector (SOLIDWORKS and STEP)
