Today, FIRST announced more information about the 2021 FIRST Robotics Competition season. You can find it here.

I know this is a lot to absorb, but I hope you can see we will be offering engaging and challenging activities for teams of all experience levels regardless of their ability to meet in person. The 2021 season will be very different from any other we have experienced, but there will still be a season, and it will still be FIRST!

For all the information we shared in the announcement today, we still have more. In the next week or so, we will be sharing more details about the new challenges we announced today. And in the coming weeks and months, you will be hearing even more. We know there is lots of uncertainty in the world today, and we want to reduce that uncertainty in our little corner as much as we can.

Although the announcement about the events is certainly a disappointment for all of us (I can’t tell you how much I miss seeing you in person!), I am very excited about what we ARE offering this season. Like Dean said in the official announcement, these new challenges will inspire us all in a different way, and I, for one, look forward to seeing what each of you contribute! Even though it may not be robots the way we typically think about them, there are still so many opportunities to learn, explore, and discover this season!

I hope you will join us for a different, but still great, 2021 FRC Season!

I feel it is far to soon to be making such a drastic change to our competition season, and although I understand that it will certainly be different this coming year the announcement made will be adversely effect our recruitment and fundraising efforts before we've even gotten started.  I believe we will also lose a great deal of mentors as well.  Too soon to make this kind of call!!

Can a team opt-out of the FIRST 2021 season, (not register),  and retain their team number?

Hi Richard.

Great question! Yes, teams can retain their team numbers after taking the 2021 season off.

Thanks!

Can teams choose to register late because some teams may want to register based on whether Covid 19 cases are rising or dropping in January and teams don't want to spend 2000-3000 dollars if there isn't even a chance of events

If we have a monetary credit with FIRST due to last year's regional competition, can those funds be used to pay this season's registration fee?
