Registrations Opening Thursday!

Oct 30, 2017 Written by Frank Merrick.

Several registrations are opening this Thursday, November 2nd, at Noon Eastern Time:

  • Unrestricted Regional Event Registration for both Regional and District teams.
  • 2018 FIRST Championship Waitlist Registration for Veteran Teams
  • Additional In-District Event Registration for District Teams

Note that for the 2018 FIRST Championship Waitlist, when you join does not matter because of our randomization process, as long as you join before we start pulling teams off the waitlist. We won’t start pulling teams off the waitlist until competition season starts.

For Unrestricted Regional Event Registration and additional In-District Event Registration, it will be first-come-first-served. Even with the many events that are now in ‘waitlist’ status, it probably is to your advantage, all other things being equal, to get on those waitlists as soon as you can.

All these registration options are accessible through the Team Events section of your dashboard.

We were unable to get in to any of our choices for 2nd event registration so we are waitlisted on our first choice. Our second and third choice regionals filled up as well. We are not looking for a third event, but should we jump on the waitlist of other full regionals that fit our travel constraints and hope that at least one comes through? What if we get in off the waitlist to more than one? Could we just withdraw from whichever ones we don't need?

We have always done one home event and one travel event so my kids will be crushed if we don't get to do our travel event this year. Do you have any suggestions for the best way to proceed?

Hi Tommy! Thanks for asking about the Waitlist situation. We definitely understand the frustration that teams are in right now. We are working really hard to meet all the competing needs in the community right now.

The most important thing to understand is that in most cases, teams who were on waitlists from the second round of preferencing will have priority over any teams who sign up now (or from now on). So you should definitely stay on your second round preference waitlist, as long as you still want to compete in that event.

That being said, if there are other events you are interested in, it doesn't hurt for you to get on those waitlists today (or at any time). You will be contacted when you get moved from a waitlist, so you can always decline any invitation you don't want to accept. Being on multiple waitlists does not affect your status on any of them.

If you have more questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out! You can always find our contact information here: https://www.firstinspires.org/about/contact-us
