Pit Announcer
The Pit Announcer plays an important role in helping keep everyone in the pits updated with key announcements and a friendly personality.
Volunteer as a Pit Announcer
FIRST Robotics Competition Championship Only
The Pit Announcer makes general announcements via use of the public-address system (PA) in the Pit area.
Minimum Age: 18 years old (must be post-high school or equivalent)
- Exceptions may be granted by event Volunteer Coordinators after review and approval by the local Program Delivery Partner
Experience: No FIRST or Related Field Experience required (but preferred)
Training: No pre-event training required
- On-site training from the Pit Administration Supervisor throughout the competition
Role Details:
- Volunteers will be selected and approved by FIRST Staff. If interested, please apply through Volunteer Registrations early in the season to be considered. After applying, please send a follow up email to frc-global-vcs@firstinspires.org with a thorough explanation of your skills and abilities.
- Facilitate adherence to match schedule
- Make general "housekeeping" announcements
- Help facilitate teams needing parts or assistance by making announcements
- Public speaking experience preferred
- Approachable and friendly personality; high energy
- Strong interpersonal/communication skills
- Clear and strong vocal ability and comfortable using a microphone in addressing a large crowd
- Volunteers should focus on the role they are filling at that event. This includes:
- Helping avoid the appearance of bias by not cheering for one specific team when wearing official event apparel (volunteer shirt or FIRST/Partner staff clothing). Instead, we encourage volunteers to cheer for all teams equally.
- Refrain from accessing sensitive event areas unless they are necessary to fulfill your volunteer role for this event. This can include playing field access, scoring table and judging rooms.
- Wearing volunteer specific apparel (e.g. FTA shirt, Robot Inspector hat, etc) only when filling that specific role.
- Must read and comply with the Volunteer Handbook
Championship Volunteer Time Commitment:
- Volunteers are needed Wednesday Morning – Saturday Afternoon.
- This role requires long hours. The Pit Announcer must be prepared to be present during all hours that the Pits are open
- More information with times will be sent before the event.
