Quiet Room Lead Volunteer

As the Quiet Room Lead Volunteer, you'll help create and maintain a calm, welcoming space at FIRST Championship by guiding a team of volunteers, supporting visitors' needs, and ensuring the room remains a peaceful retreat for all. This is a thoughtful, people-focused role ideal for someone who values emotional wellness and inclusive support.

Volunteer as a Quiet Room Lead Volunteer

FIRST Championship Only

The Quiet Room Lead Volunteer for FIRST Championship oversees the Quiet Room and daily volunteers, to ensure individuals using the room respect the nature of the space. The Quiet Room Lead Volunteer ensures the Quiet Room Volunteers monitor the room, assists them as needed to supervise activities, answers questions, and provides gentle reminders of this space's purpose.

Minimum Age: 18 years old (must be post-high school or equivalent)

Experience: Both FIRST and Related Field Experience required

Training: Significant pre-event training required

  • Volunteers will be provided with an Expanded Quiet Room Guide document and will participate in a pre-event call with FIRST Social Impact & Engagement staff to prepare.
  • Volunteers will receive an orientation onsite.

Role Details:

  • Assist and guide Quiet Room attendants to arrange space and supplies to be welcoming.
  • Assist Quiet Room attendants in the maintenance of the room and any equipment, keeping the area and equipment in good order (for example, moderate lighting and minimal visual stimuli, organized supplies for activities).
  • Answer questions and provide general assistance.
  • If empty, take a walk and invite people to use the space.
  • Ensure all volunteers take coordinated breaks as needed, ensuring there are at least two people monitoring the room at all times.
  • Be the point of contact with appropriate people in the event of an emergency.
  • Know what is and what is not allowed in the Quiet Room.
  • FIRST experience preferred
  • Experience and/or comfortable supporting individuals who may need a quiet space during Championship.
  • Self-directed individual
  • Must read and comply with the Volunteer Handbook

Time Commitment:

  • Volunteers are needed Wednesday-Saturday.

Reports to: FIRST Social Impact & Engagement Staff
