Event Volunteer Role
Radio Room Monitor
As a Radio Room Monitor, you’ll play a key role in keeping event communication running smoothly by signing out radios, organizing equipment, and assisting with basic troubleshooting. This role is a great fit for organized, self-directed adults with strong communication skills and an interest in learning about event operations behind the scenes.
Volunteer as a Radio Room Monitor
FIRST Robotics Competition Championship Only
Radio Room Monitors help sign out radios and troubleshoot issues with the equipment as needed. Staff from the radio company will be on hand to assist with any issues, and to oversee the unpacking and packing of all radio-related items.
Minimum Age: 18 years old (post-high school or equivalent)
Experience: No FIRST or Related Field Experience required
Training: No pre-event training required
- Training is provided on site upon arrival as needed
Role Details:
- Level of familiarity with radio technology preferred
- Sign out radios, batteries and headsets to volunteers and staff
- Troubleshoot issues with radios as possible
- Clean, organize and manage radio inventory as directed by company
- Able to take direction and follow through
- Self-directed individual
- Strong communication skills
- Volunteers should focus on the role they are filling at that event. This includes:
- Helping avoid the appearance of bias by not cheering for one specific team when wearing official event apparel (volunteer shirt or FIRST/Partner staff clothing). Instead, we encourage volunteers to cheer for all teams equally.
- Refrain from accessing sensitive event areas unless they are necessary to fulfill your volunteer role for this event. This can include playing field access, scoring table and judging rooms.
- Wearing volunteer specific apparel (e.g. FTA shirt, Robot Inspector hat, etc) only when filling that specific role.
- Must read and comply with the Volunteer Handbook
Championship Volunteer Time Commitment:
- Volunteers are needed Wednesday Morning – Saturday Afternoon. Volunteers will be given a shift each day available.
- More information with times will be sent before the event.
