Test/Practice Attendant
As a Test/Practice Attendant, you'll help teams make the most of their event experience by managing safe, fair, and efficient access to the test/practice area.
Volunteer as a Test/Practice Attendant
FIRST Robotics Competition Only
The Test/Practice Attendant plays an important role in helping teams prepare for competition by managing access to the test/practice area, ensuring safety, and supporting fair and efficient field use. Test/Practice Attendants monitor team activity, maintain equipment, assist with scheduling (if applicable), and help create a positive, team-friendly environment.
Volunteers in this role ensure teams have equitable access to practice time, enforce safety procedures, and report equipment issues. This position is best suited for organized, proactive individuals who enjoy supporting teams and maintaining a smooth event flow.
Recommended Minimum Age: 13 years old, prefer individuals identified as leads are 18+
Experience: No FIRST or Related Field Experience required
Training: No pre-event training required, on-site training is provided
Role Details:
- Implement FIRST safety standards and help manage safety for the event
- Maintain a schedule at the test/practice areas, monitor flow of teams, ensure fair use of areas
- Report any malfunctions or field damage to the Field Supervisor / FIRST Technical Advisor
- Keep the practice area clean of debris
- Ensure all teams are given equitable access to the test/practice areas
- Basic knowledge of the game and match process is helpful
- Self-directed individual preferred
- Volunteers should focus on the role they are filling at that event. This includes:
- Helping avoid the appearance of bias by not cheering for one specific team when wearing official event apparel (volunteer shirt or FIRST/Partner staff clothing). Instead, we encourage volunteers to cheer for all teams equally.
- Refrain from accessing sensitive event areas unless they are necessary to fulfill your volunteer role for this event. This can include playing field access, scoring table and judging rooms.
- Wearing volunteer specific apparel (e.g. FTA shirt, Robot Inspector hat, etc) when filling that specific role.
- Must read and comply with the Volunteer Handbook
Volunteer Time Commitment:
- Minimum 1/2 day commitment
- Preferred 2 full day commitment (Districts) or 3 full day commitment (Regionals)
Reports to: Volunteer Coordinator. Technical supervision provided by the FIRST Technical Advisor (FTA) and FIRST Technical Advisor Assistant (FTAA, if the FTA is unavailable).

- Volunteers are needed Wednesday midday – Friday evening.
- Can be divided among multiple volunteers for the duration of the event.
