FIRST Robotics Competition Teams,
There have been many questions about how to celebrate Star Wars within your team materials, activities and at events this season. We had previously provided guidance on how teams may incorporate Star Wars characters and elements into team materials, but want to provide you all with additional clarity on how best to celebrate the FIRST RISE powered by Star Wars: Force for Change season. Please see our additional guidance below for creating inspired designs.
As a reminder, members of the FIRST community may not:
- use FIRST or Lucasfilm/Star Wars Intellectual Property unless specifically permitted under the FIRST RISE Guidelines
- alter, animate, or distort the trademarks or combine them with any other symbols, words, images, or designs
- use Lucasfilm/Star Wars trademarks on promotional merchandise that is for sale (such as t-shirts, magnets, etc.)
- use the official Star Wars logo typeface or any font that resembles it for other logos or copy
- use the Star Wars opening crawl
Approved Star Wars Images
Star Wars: Force for Change has kindly put together a toolkit of graphics that are approved for you to use on any promotional merchandise and materials that are not for sale. You can find the toolkit here. Any other Star Wars images or symbols outside of this toolkit are not permitted and FIRST cannot grant permission for vendors to produce.
You are welcome to create your own Star Wars-inspired designs so long as they're abstract and transformative, meaning your design is clearly different from the original Star Wars artwork. We've provided some inspired designs that help illustrate this for your reference.
Star Wars Merchandise and Costumes at Events
Any official Star Wars merchandise, costumes and products are acceptable to wear or display at any time and we strongly encourage you to do so. You may also celebrate the season by creating your own Star Wars outfits and costumes. We can’t wait to see you celebrate Star Wars during the INFINITE RECHARGE season!
If you have any questions, please reach out to marketing@firstinspires.org.

Hi Daniela!
Use of the approved graphics is allowed, as long as the items are not for sale. Please see more information about the GAME CHANGERS season here: https://info.firstinspires.org/hubfs/2021%20Season%20Assets/GAMECHANGERS/FIRST-GAME-CHANGERS-Style-Guide.pdf
