Event Volunteer Role
Field Assembly / Disassembly
Be part of the team that brings the competition to life—Field Assembly/Disassembly volunteers help build and pack up the playing and practice fields, making the event possible for teams and spectators alike. This hands-on role is a great fit for team players who enjoy working with tools, following instructions, and making a visible impact behind the scenes.
Volunteer with Field Assembly / Disassembly
Field Assembly and Disassembly volunteers assist with assembly of the playing field and the practice field on event set-up day, and/or disassembly on event break-down day. Volunteers are not required to do both assembly and disassembly.
Minimum Age: 13 years old (18 years old preferred)
Experience: No FIRST or related experience required
Training: No pre-event training required
- On-site training and supervision provided by Field Supervisor or FIRST Technical Advisor
Role Details / Responsibilities:
- Tools and hardware are provided, and volunteers are not required to bring any tools with them to the event but are encouraged to bring their own safety glasses and gloves.
- Assemble playing field and practice field including electronics
- Strict adherence to the FIRST safety practices, specifically for lifting and other physically challenging tasks, including adherence to the Safety Manual. This includes wearing safety glasses, wearing closed toed/heeled shoes, wearing appropriate clothing and adherence to any health/safety requirements in place for the event.

- Assist in loading and unloading travel crates and carpet rolls onto and off the truck, as needed
- Physical strength; ability to lift heavy objects (no more than 50 lbs.) and push large crates

- Helping avoid the appearance of bias by not cheering for one specific team when wearing official event apparel (volunteer shirt or FIRST/Partner staff clothing). Instead, we encourage volunteers to cheer for all teams equally.
- Refrain from accessing sensitive event areas unless they are necessary to fulfill your volunteer role for this event. This can include playing field access, scoring table and judging rooms.
